Pre-Commissioning Verification
Before switching on, verify: all poles are plumb (within 2mm/m tolerance). All foundation bolts are torqued to spec and cross-marked. Cable glands are tightened and sealed with silicone. Panel tilt angle matches specification (measure with inclinometer). Panel faces true south (verify with compass app). No shade on panel between 9am–3pm (check on site at midday). Battery terminals are connected correctly (positive to positive, negative to negative). Controller DIP switches or app settings match the specified dimming schedule.
Electrical Testing
For each pole, measure and record: Open circuit voltage of solar panel (should be 18–22V for a 12V system on a clear day at solar noon). Battery voltage before first charge (should be above 11.5V for LiFePO4 - if below, the battery was discharged in storage and needs a recovery charge). Controller output voltage to LED (should match LED driver input spec, typically 12V ±0.5V). Current draw of LED at 100% brightness (compare against spec - 20W LED should draw ~1.7A at 12V). IR measurement at 30cm from fixture: should be below 60°C in ambient above 35°C.
Functional Testing - Night Simulation
Cover the solar panel completely with an opaque cloth. Wait 30 seconds. The LED must switch on automatically - if not, check photocell wiring and controller settings. At 100% brightness, measure lux at the road surface (use a lux meter): record the value and compare against project specifications. Test PIR motion sensor if fitted: walk within 5m of the sensor - light should brighten within 1 second. Test manual override if fitted (remote or app). Uncover the panel - light must switch off within 30 seconds.
Documentation Package for Handover
The handover package must include: as-installed pole layout drawing with GPS coordinates of each pole. Commissioning report (one row per pole: pole number, GPS, panel voltage, battery voltage, LED current, lux reading, pass/fail). Warranty cards for each unit, in the client's name. Battery chemistry and capacity specification sheet. Charge controller user manual and DIP switch/app settings used. Manufacturer's BIS certificate copies. Emergency contact number for warranty claims (Xera Tech: +91 9607908432). Maintenance schedule card (laminated, posted at the gram panchayat office).
