Monthly Check (5 minutes per light)

Walk the road after dark and note any lights that are not working, are significantly dimmer than others, or are flickering. Record the pole numbers. Report to the gram panchayat / maintenance contractor for follow-up. During the day, visually check for: broken or tilted panels, bent mounting arms, loose fixtures, bird nests near the fixture (block ventilation and add weight to the arm), and any obvious physical damage.

Quarterly Maintenance (Per Pole)

Clean the solar panel surface with a damp cloth - remove dust, bird droppings, and any organic matter. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal scrapers. Check and retighten all fasteners on the panel mount, arm, and pole base. Verify the panel angle has not shifted. Check cable entry points for crack or water ingress signs - reseal with silicone if needed. Test the light manually by covering the panel (should turn on within 30 seconds). Log the check date.

Annual Professional Maintenance

Inspect all wiring inside the fixture for rodent damage, UV degradation, and loose connections. Test battery voltage and charge capacity with a battery tester. Measure output lux at ground level and compare with initial commissioning values - a 20%+ drop indicates LED degradation or panel efficiency loss. Check all M12 and M16 fasteners with a torque wrench. Touch up any rust spots on the pole with zinc primer + topcoat paint. Test the charge controller's protection functions (low battery cut-off, overcharge cut-off). Record all readings in a maintenance log.

Monsoon Preparation (Pre-June)

Before the monsoon season begins: check all cable glands and conduit entry seals - replace any that are cracked or open. Apply fresh silicone sealant at all fixture entry points. Check panel frame drainage holes are clear (blocked drainage allows water pooling on panel, reducing output). Verify that all pole earth connections are intact and earth resistance is below 5 ohms. Check for tree branches that may have grown near panels during the year - trim if shading.
