Punjab's New and Renewable Energy Minister announced the Mukhya Mantri Roshan Punjab Yojna, a state programme to illuminate 13,000 villages with solar LED streetlights at an outlay of roughly ₹550 crore.
Implementation and funding
The Punjab Energy Development Agency will implement the scheme in phases between June and October 2026, with the state government covering 70% of costs and gram panchayats the remaining 30%.
Maintenance and monitoring
Each light will carry a seven-year annual maintenance contract with defective units replaced within three days, alongside geo-tagging and centralised monitoring through a command and control centre.
