BMC's LED Street Light Programme
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been systematically replacing older mercury vapour and sodium street lights with LED across all 24 wards since 2016. The program covers over 4.5 lakh street light points across Greater Mumbai. BMC procurement goes through GeM portal and open tenders - manufacturers must be BIS certified, ERDA tested, and meet BMC's specific technical specifications. The transition to LED has reduced BMC's street lighting electricity expenditure by over 40%, saving hundreds of crore annually.
Housing Society LED Upgrades in MMR
Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Kalyan-Dombivli have thousands of housing societies - CHS (Co-operative Housing Societies) - that manage their own internal road and common area lighting. The LED upgrade opportunity is enormous: most societies still have old CFL or fluorescent common area lights.
