What is a Flood Light?
A flood light (also called a floodlight) emits a broad, high-intensity beam - typically covering 90°–120° of area. Unlike a street light which projects light in a specific road-profile pattern, a flood light throws light over a wide area uniformly. They range from 20W (home security) to 1,000W (stadium and high mast applications). IP65-rated flood lights are fully weatherproof and suitable for permanent outdoor installation.
Residential and Housing Society Uses
Home compound walls and gates (50–100W): provides security lighting for the entire facade. Garden and landscape accent lighting (20–50W): highlights trees, water features, and lawns. Housing society common areas and parking (100–200W): uniform illumination across large open areas. Rooftop security (100W): covers entire building perimeter. For residential use, choose warm white (3000–4000K) for aesthetics or cool white (5000–6500K) for security.
Commercial and Industrial Uses
Petrol pump canopy lighting (150–200W): critical for safety and brand visibility at night. Warehouse and factory yard (200–400W): illuminates loading docks, perimeter, and external machinery. Construction site (200–500W): enables night shifts and improves safety. Cold storage exterior (100–200W): IP65 prevents moisture damage. Logistics hub and truck terminal (200–300W per zone): covers large paved areas. Car showroom exterior (100–150W): highlights vehicles effectively.
Stadiums, Sports, and Public Spaces
Cricket and football ground (400–1000W per mast): requires 300–500 lux for broadcast-quality illumination. School sports ground (150–200W per mast): 100–150 lux for training and evening matches. Community park (50–100W per pole): 30–50 lux for safe public use. Heritage monument lighting (50–200W): architectural uplighting requires precise beam angles. Temple courtyard (100–200W): even illumination for large gathering areas.
Agriculture and Rural Uses
Poultry farm - flood lights extend the day artificially to improve egg production. Fish farm and aquaculture - lights attract insects as fish feed. Mango and grape orchards - night lighting for sorting and harvesting operations. Rural cold storage facility perimeter - security and operational lighting. Bio-gas plant area - safe lighting in potentially explosive atmosphere (use ATEX-rated lights in this case).
